PROJECT 3 - Lakeside Sculpture Manufactory Museum
This Sculpture Manufactory Museum is a rebuild project from the ruined bastion where at the corner of ancient stonewall. The idea of building a manufactory for sculpture arts is desire to ensure the great cultural traditions of Prato’s past should not be denied a prospect for continuity in the future. Especially when chinese immigrant take around one third of the population, how to keep the traditional italian craft skill in the culture impact is my main course.
This Museum was conceived to promote today’s artistic expressions – which will become tomorrow’s cultural heritage. Intended not only as place to exhibit art, this Museum was also planned as an education centre to let visitor watch the real time product process whilst to establish a dialogue with artistes and public – its cultural mission inspired by three key words: innovation, multiculturalism and interactive.
This design is interior driven, biasing building section and interior spatial effects. The goal is to create a cavernous space which will appear simultaneously massive and lightweight. The project oscillates between volume and surface, avoiding the limitations of exclusively surface-based and volume-based architectures.
The core concept is based on flowing elements found in the river near by-- this building is like crystal sitting on the bank of the mother river that breed up Prato's people have a characteristics to accept different cultures in their blood, whilst the strong volume of rock represent the indomitable spirit in the history of against enemies. Every miniature crystal describes a unique moment in time, captured in suspension, exhibiting the tension between fluid biomorphic forms juxtaposing with the exacting, angular regularity of crystal. As the curvature of the surface of each piece strip flawlessly twists and turns, dynamic form and ergonomic considerations are seamlessly integrated. An asymmetrical elegance conveys an innate a sense of movement that seductively encases the embedded crystalline particles.

In Prato, there are two things attracted me most, one is the largest Chinese immigrants in European, how they live and how is the culture impacted; the other one is the ancient wall, it acts as a proctor for the city in ancient times but will it became a chain restrict the city development in modern times?
Focus on Old Town, I have been to every streets to mark all the different kinds of shop and categorised the distribution in order to find the relationship like where are the customers come from, what's their routes, where are different age customer going to, in the meanwhile I have drawn the plans and section to compare the different elements by different holder or different places. Supplement I made interview to resident about the behaviours, working situation and the range of activity. This research will give me an in-depth understanding of the lifestyle and livelihood of resident then make a design firmly fits to location. Secondly I've study about the ancient wall, recording the facade, structure, history, building attached and the bastion, because it is an constituent part of old town that can be ignored. With the probe I found the bastion seems more interesting because it used to be a military construction, the complex inner space and prominent location make it more important to the city and have more uncertainty factors for me to make the following design interesting. During an in-depth and comprehensive research in the livelihood and ancient wall, my purpose is to finding a Scrap Construction to redesign became a Public Building to make people stay, which have a Echo Relations with the city library in the south, and to serving residents increase the quality of life and make this city running healthier. |

PROJECT 2 - Nottingham City Home (re)action -The Three Scales/Ecologies
I create this video for my studio module which explores a range of digital software and possibilities for presentation of movie produced. The submission brief was to create a video which displayed all work research in this semester for the module. The concept behind my movie was to create a 'METABOLISM CITY' which would display all the analysis and design in a single video. Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that happen in living organisms to maintain life. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and respond to their environments. Buildings can be like a machine, the machine parts can always swap update. Every house will be demolished over time and update by their own. |

Concept - Glitazones -Adapt/Extend/Re-use/Interpret/Integrate
If compared the city as a living body, then the street is the blood vessel, constructions are the various organs, people are platelets passing the nutrients. With time passing by, when an organ going to fall into decay, no doubt, the blood would be condense as well, and then a fast knot is form.
Glitazones are a class of medications used to break down sugar in the blood vessels in order to decrease the diastolic force in the meanwhile transfer the nutrient to the place where it needs. Thereby enhancing the vitality of life.
In my case study, Nottingham city home under the rapid development in these 3 years, the building space usage has reached a saturation state. So I would like to explore such a possibility, link these two buildings by bridges to play the role of Glitazones. Provide more space for city home to relieve stress, in the meanwhile bring up the vitality of rodent house, so the ecosystem in this area will be activity.

PROJECT 1 - Site Construct(Connection) -FENlandScape
Transport and Infrastructure Analysis:
The infrastructure of the fens is generally influenced by the layout of the waterways, with the main waterways usually coinciding with road, rail and infrastructure.
The fens is also becoming more reliant on turbines and green power due to its flatness and availability of sustainable sources.
There is a need for more ways to distribute power across the fenland area as energy demand is not decreasing. I'm trying to research the interior relationship of the energy input and output in the fenland to display the specified place that take refine solution.
